Editorial policy

The rules we hold ourselves to, so you can hold us to them too.

Independence

No brand or manufacturer pays for placement, a ranking, a score or a mention. We do not accept free products in exchange for coverage, and no manufacturer sees a review before it is published. Our only revenue is affiliate commission, and commission never changes a ranking — which is why you will find direct-only desks that pay us nothing ranked above ones that pay us well.

How rankings are decided

Rankings follow the published methodology: certification verified at the registry, materials and off-gassing understood, cost-to-own worked out, and a scoring rubric applied consistently. The buyer we rank for is health-and-safety-conscious, so certification and materials weigh heavily. We do not rank by price alone or by commission.

Accuracy and sourcing

  • Every certification claim is verified in the certifying body's own registry before we state it.
  • Every health or pain claim is cited to a recognized authority — Cleveland Clinic, the CDC, NIOSH, or peer-reviewed research — and dated.
  • Specs come from the manufacturer's manual or spec sheet; prices come from the live Amazon layer and are dated.
  • Where we could not verify something, we say so on the page rather than leaving it out.
  • We never fabricate prices, ratings, review counts, certifications or testing claims.

Corrections

If we get a fact wrong, email info@riserandrail.com. We aim to correct verified factual errors within 48 hours and add a visible note on the page describing what changed and when.

Update cadence

  • Prices: pulled live and re-checked continuously; a price older than 48 hours is removed automatically rather than shown stale.
  • Roundups and the certification matrix: reviewed quarterly; discontinued models and lapsed certifications are corrected promptly.
  • Health and evidence guides: reviewed every six months, with citations refreshed.
  • Every page shows a "last updated" date.

Health information

Our health and pain guides are informational and sourced, and they are not a substitute for medical advice. Where a page discusses pain or a medical condition, it carries a not-medical-advice note.
